Man arrested with drugs worth RM9k

KUCHING: An unemployed 33-year-old man from Jalan Nanas Barat was caught red-handed trying to drop off drugs worth RM9,000 near a lamp post outside an apartment at Jalan Stampin Timur recently.

State Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) head Supt Hasnir Abdul Hamid said acting on information received, police went to the area at 4pm and caught the
suspect.

In the suspect’s possession was a black plastic bag containing 11 smaller packets of syabu with an estimated weight of 60g. A urine test was conducted on the suspect, who tested positive for drugs.

He was detained for further questioning and the case has been classified under Section 39B of Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty if convicted.

The suspect will also be further investigated under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for the consumption of drugs.
