KUCHING: A man claimed trial after pleading not guilty on charges of possessing drugs weighing 30.6g last July.

The accused, Chong Cin Fah, 32, appeared before Magistrates’ Court judge Zubaidah Sharkawi on Monday (Sept 20).

He was charged with committing the offence at the Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal around 6.05pm on July 5.

The accused was charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and is punishable under Section 12 (3) of the same Act, which carries a fine of up to RM100,000, or a maximum jail term of five years, or both, if convicted.

However, the court allowed the accused to post bail of RM1,500 with two local sureties.

The court also set an extension date for the case to Oct 27.

Earlier, the Customs Department reported that the accused went to the bus terminal to collect a package at the bus service counter.
