KUCHING: A 24-year-old man was arrested for causing public nuisance at a renowned hotel here on Thursday.

The man who was undergoing quarantine set alight a hand sanitiser at the hotel’s lobby at 9.15am.

Kuching district police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said the incident occurred when the man who behaved oddly, roaming the hotel while in quarantine and damaging items in his room, prior to setting fire to a hand sanitiser in the lobby which led to his arrest shortly after.

“Fortunately, swift action by the hotel staff managed to douse off the flames.

“The suspect was supposed to undergo a quarantine period from May 2 to 15 after arriving from Kuala Lumpur,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Awang Din added that the case has been referred to the Health Ministry for further action.

The suspect is currently being quarantined at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

The suspect is also known as the hiker who went missing for seven days following his solo ascent at Mount Singai, Bau in 2018.
