SIBU: A 42-year-old driver died after he crashed his car into a tree at Jalan Wawasan, here, early this morning.
A team of firefighters from the Sungai Merah fire station was deployed to the scene following a distress call at 2 am.
According to Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Janggan Muling, the team arrived to find the victim, identified as Poh Ching Peng, trapped in the vehicle.
It is understood that the car had skidded before it crashed into the tree.
“The team extricated the victim using a rescue tool and handed him over to the paramedics at scene to determine his status.
“The victim was pronounced dead by the paramedics and handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement.
The body was taken to Sibu Hospital for a post-mortem.
