Man fined for hurling fuel at neighbour’s car

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday sentenced a man to a fine of RM1,500 or three months’ jail for maliciously destroying his neighbour’s car by hurling a plastic bag filled with diesel fuel.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar meted out the sentence on Juwanda, 29, after he pleaded guilty to the charges under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

According to the charge sheet, he committed the crime on Sept 4 at around 10.04pm at a residence at Jalan Hashim Jaafar here.

Upon conviction, the maximum jail term is five years imprisonment, a fine, or both.

The complainant, according to the facts of the case, submitted a police report on Sept 5 after discovering a broken plastic bag suspected of holding diesel on the windshield of his vehicle.

The windshield and bonnet of the complainant’s car were damaged due to the diesel oil, resulting in a loss of RM100.

The complainant then filed a police report, which resulted in the accused’s arrest on Sept 5.

The court heard that Juwanda purposefully tossed a plastic bag carrying diesel towards the complainant’s vehicle, and the act was captured on video by a closed circuit camera (CCTV).

It is understood that the accused and the victim had a falling out prior to the incident.

Furthermore, the accused intended to set fire to the complainant’s vehicle.

The case was prosecuted by prosecuting officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad, and the accused was not represented by a counsel.
