Man fined for threatening nephews

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court today sentenced a 43-year-old local man to a fine of RM2,000 in default two months’ jail for threatening three nephews with a machete because he felt disrespected.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi meted out the sentence on Azman Mohammad after he pleaded guilty to the charges under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

Based on the charges, he deliberately caused fear by pointing a machete at three victims, aged between 17 to 20.

He committed the offence at a coffee shop at Mile 7, Kota Sentosa here at around 3am last July 19.

According to the facts of the case, during the day of the incident, the complainant and his two other relatives were approached by their uncle (accused) who pointed a machete at them.

It is understood that the cause of the incident was due to the fact that he was not satisfied with his nephew who disrespected him.

In addition, during the incident, the accused could not control his emotions because of domestic problems.

The complainant who was worried about his safety and two of his relatives then filed a police report for further action.

The prosecution of the case was handled by prosecuting officer Insp Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin while the accused was not represented by a counsel.
