Man gets 6 months for stealing car battery

KUCHING: A 30-year-old man will have to spend time behind bars for six months for stealing a car battery.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi meted out the sentence on Muhammad Nur Attirmidzi Ibrahim, 30, after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

The accused was ordered to serve the jail term starting today.

He was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code for stealing the car battery belonging to Tay Siew Choo, 57. He committed the offence at a house in Matang Jaya, here, at about 11.30 am, last Feb 18.

The court was told that the complainant was at a restaurant when he was informed by his neighbour that he had made a citizen’s arrest on a man who broke into his house in Matang Jaya.

The complainant went home and found his house in disarray and his car battery missing. He lodged a police report.
