Man gets six years in prison for armed robbery

KUCHING: A man has been sentenced to six years in prison and three strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here for armed robbery.

Annuar, 38, pleaded guilty before Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman on Monday (April 10).

Wielding a samurai sword, Annuar committed the offence at a convenience store in Jalan Sultan Tengah here around 8.30pm on March 3, making off with RM150 in cash and lighters.

He was charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397 of the same Code, which carries a prison term of up to 14 years and caning, if convicted.

The court ordered the accused to serve the sentence from the day of his arrest, which was March 4.

Deputy public prosecutor Iezzah Iburdanisha Ibrahim prosecuted the case while the accused was not represented by counsel.
