Man gets three years for violating court order

SIBU: The Magistrates’ Court here on Friday (Nov 19) sentenced a man to three years’ imprisonment for not maintaining peace and good conduct as ordered.

Meor Zakaria Nordin, 25, from Kampung Bahagia Jaya, Jalan Teku pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 6(7) of the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.

The Act provides for an imprisonment term of not less than three years and not exceeding five years upon conviction.

The charge stated that he was found to have not complied with the conditions set under Section 6(3) (i) which is to maintain peace and good conduct as ordered.
Prosecuting officer Insp Badrul Iskandar Selamat told the court that on Aug 24, 2020 at about 11am, the accused was found to be a person placed under a restraining order under Section 6(3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (LLPK) 1985 issued by the Minister of Home Affairs dated Aug 6, 2020.

Thus the accused committed an offence of violating the conditions of the restraining order under the Act whereby initial police screening test conducted on him found his urine specimen was positive for the drugs amphetamine and methamphetamine.

The accused was later detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for injecting drugs into his own body.

Pathology report revealed that the accused’s urine sample taken was confirmed to have contained dangerous drugs listed in the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
