MIRI: A 25-year-old man was detained on Monday (Apr 19) for allegedly injuring his wife with a steel rod during an argument early that day.

The victim, aged 29, sustained injuries to her left wrist.

Preliminary investigation revealed that jealousy had driven the man into injuring his wife around 2pm at their house in Luak 4 here.

The victim had immediately lodged a police report on the incident that same day.

Acting on a report lodged by the victim, Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel rushed to the scene and detained the suspect around 8.30pm for questioning.

A 79-centimetre-long iron rod, believed to have been used by the suspect during the argument, was also seized.

Miri Police Chief ACP Hakemal Hawari, when contacted, confirmed the arrest.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons.
