Man jailed 3 months for stealing phone

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court sentenced a local man to three months in prison and fined him RM1,000 for stealing a smartphone earlier this month.

Irrizary, 31, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi to a charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

He stole an Honor smartphone belonging to a 37-year-old man in a premise at Jalan Stutong around 10.40 am on February 9.

According to the case facts, the complainant noticed his phone, which had been placed on the desk, was missing and suspected it had been stolen.

After reviewing the premises’ CCTV footage, the complainant found out an unidentified man taking his phone.

A police report was subsequently filed, leading to Irrizary’s arrest at a house in Taman Desa Ilmu on February 12.

Investigations confirmed that the offender had stolen the complainant’s phone, as shown in the CCTV footage from the premises.

Furthermore, he sold the phone to an unidentified individual.

ASP Rogayah Rosli prosecuted the case, while Irrizary was not represented by counsel.
