Man jailed for threatening to kill own sister

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a jobless man to three months in jail for threatening to kill his own sister.

This was due to dissatisfaction that his brother-in-law viralled a video of him stealing electric cables on Facebook.

The accused Mohd Shamsul Ahat, 27, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar to a charge framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

According to the charges, he threatened to kill his 33-year-old sister and said aiming to fight his brother-in-law in a house at Kampung Selipar Putus, Jalan Setia Raja around 8 am on Jan 31.

Based on the facts of the case, during the incident, the victim’s younger brother went amok and threatened to kill her.

In addition, the accused that has six prior records involving drug offences and one record for theft, often rages and threatens his family members.

The cause of the incident was because he was not satisfied when the victim’s husband shared a video of the accused stealing an electric cable on Facebook.

Fearing for her safety and other family members’ safety, the victim lodged a police report for further action, which led to the arrest of the accused on the same day.

Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang who prosecuted the case, asked the court to sentence the accused appropriately as a lesson.
