Man jailed six months for possessing stolen item

KUCHING: A self-employed man was sentenced to six months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today for possessing a stolen motorcycle frame.

Accused Sharfiqh, 29, from Kampung Tupong Ulu pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code which was read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

If convicted of the offence, one can be sentenced to imprisonment of not less than six months and not more than five years and can be fined.

According to the charge sheet, he was accused of possessing stolen property of a motorcycle frame belonging to Anthony Galin Nanda, 30, at an unnumbered house at Jalan Astana, at about 9.10pm on September 20.

Based on the facts of the case, the victim made a police report on December 22, 2021 about his motorcycle being stolen by someone after he left his bike parked on the sidewalk of a shopping mall.

Acting after receiving information on September 20, a police team raided an unnumbered house at Jalan Astana because it was suspected of storing stolen goods.
During the inspection, the accused was successfully arrested along with the seized material which was a motorcycle frame.

The motorcycle was confirmed belonging to the victim through the chassis engine registration number as in the previous missing police report.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad led the prosecution while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
