Man jailed three months for drugs

KUCHING: A 30-year-old unemployed man was sentenced to three months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here, yesterday, for abusing Methamphetamine and Amphetamine ten years ago.

Mohd Bahtia Sapee, 30, pleaded guilty to a charge which was read before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

Zubaidah ordered the accused to be under police supervision for two years after serving his sentence.

According to the charges, he committed the offence at the Kuching district Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) around 1.30 pm on November 25, 2013.

Therefore, he was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.

According to the facts of the case, he was arrested after being suspected of abusing the drugs after his urine test came out positive.

After his urine sample was sent to the Malaysian Chemistry Department for analysis, the report showed that the accused was positive for Methamphetamine and Amphetamine.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
