SRI AMAN: A man was killed Monday night when a tree fell on him while he was felling trees in a forest along Jalan Bungkang.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from the Sri Aman fire station where deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 10.58pm.

Kalom Manggai, 65, from Empanggu Undop, was felling a tree to make wooden boards, when the tree fell towards him, trapping him underneath.

Prior to the incident, the victim was accompanied by his friends. But his friends left earlier for home, leaving him to finish his work.

“When the victim failed to return home by 10pm his friends headed back to the scene and found the victim trapped beneath the tree.

“They freed him and contacted Bomba for further assistance.

“Firefighters transferred the victim to a stretcher and brought him out of the forest before handing him over to paramedics from Sri Aman,”’said the spokesman.

The victim was pronounced dead by the paramedics.

The rescue operations ended at 12.30am.
