KUCHING: A 28-year-old man was arrested in Bako for possession of syabu during an operation conducted on Monday.
The raid was carried out by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department at a house in the village at 4pm.
NCID Kuching department chief DSP Hasnir Abdul Hamid said the police found a transparent plastic packet containing crystal powder weighing about 5.37g.
The suspect tested positive for methamphetamine but did not have criminal record.
Hasmir added that the case was being investigated under Section 39A of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession and Section 15(1)(a) under the same Act for drug consumption.
“The suspect can be sentenced to a minimum of five years’ jail upon conviction for drug possession and for drug consumption. If convicted, the suspect can be fined up to RM5,000 or jail not exceeding two years or both,” he said.
