BUKIT MERTAJAM: A Bangladeshi man pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here today to a charge of using forged documents for the purpose of cheating when applying for his passport renewal.
Kazi Monir, 35, made the plea before Magistrate Mohd Harith Mohd Mazlan.
He was charged with submitting a forged police report, receipts and tax invoice of Myeg Service Berhad, as well as receipts from the Malaysian Immigration Department, in his application for passport renewal with the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.
The offence was allegedly committed at a premises in Lorong Usahaniaga 1, Taman Usahaniaga, Bukit Mertajam at about 7.30 pm last Feb 8.
The charge framed under Section 468 of the Penal Code provides imprisonment for up to seven years and a fine, if convicted.
The court allowed him bail of RM10,000 with two local sureties and also ordered him to surrender his passport to the court as well as report himself at a police station every two weeks.
The court set March 22 for mention.
