Man sentenced for damaging father’s wardrobe mirror

KUCHING: A man has been fined RM1,500 or faces three months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here for damaging his father’s wardrobe mirror.
Awang Faridd Shah Awang Zainudin, 41, pleaded guilty to a charge read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan on Tuesday (Sept 5).
He was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a punishment of imprisonment for not less than one year and not more than five years or a fine or both, upon conviction.
The incident occurred in a house in Kampung Rampangi at around 9 pm on July 24. The accused’s actions had created fear and tension within the household, with similar incidents having occurred before.
The complainant, who is the accused’s spouse, reported the matter to the police, resulting in his arrest on the same day. An investigation revealed that the accused had deliberately damaged the wardrobe mirror, causing losses of approximately RM200.
The accused had a history of nine previous criminal records, including offences related to drug abuse, death threats, and intentionally causing harm to others.
The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while the accused did not have legal representation.
