Manhunt for gunmen in New Year’s Day attempted murder

SIBU: Police have launched a manhunt for two gunmen involved in an attempted murder at an eatery along Jalan Wong King Hou here on New Year’s Day.

Three men aged between 27 and 33, are currently receiving treatment at a private hospital and are reported to be in stable conditions.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili told a press conference that the first victim suffered three gunshot wounds on both thighs and the right leg, the second sustained a gunshot wound on his left shoulder, and the third on his right shoulder.

“A total of 10 bullet casings, believed to be from a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, were recovered from the crime scene.

“We are investigating the motive behind the shooting from all angles. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder,” he said this morning.

Investigations revealed that two unidentified men arrived at an eatery on separate motorcycles at around 4.55 pm.

One of the suspects approached the victims who were drinking with three others at the eatery.

The assailant then fired several shots at close range, while his accomplice fired from a distance of about 20 metres.

As a result, three of the victims were injured while the other three managed to escape unscathed and alerted the police.

Zulkipli urged anyone with information about the incident to channel them to investigating officer ASP Mingat Bakil at 0198867978 or report them to the nearest police stations.

He cautioned the public against sensationalising the incident as it is still under police investigation.
