When she was four years old, the author was diagnosed with beta-thalassemia major and at the age of 13, she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This year is her eighth year living as a diabetic patient.

Speaking during the launching, Manyin said Emelyne’s book about sharing her personal success in overcoming the challenges due to her condition would inspire young girls and boys to face all the opportunities and challenges in their lives.

“Her story also makes us aware of the importance of medical check-ups and early detection as they will allow for early treatment, ” he said, adding that early treatment would improve the chances for better clinical outcomes, reduce the burden on care givers and reduce the overall treatment costs.
