PUTRAJAYA: Marrybrown Sdn Bhd (Marrybrown) swept the 2022 Best Franchise Award at the 24th Malaysian Franchise Awards (AFM) 2022 here last night.

Marrybrown also won the Best Franchisor Award with two other brands namely Cambridge English For Life Sdn Bhd and Ayam Penyet Bagus Sdn Bhd.

Marrybrown which was established in 1981 now has more than 500 branches throughout Malaysia and in 16 countries including Sweden, Maldives, China and Myanmar.

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof presented the trophies and certificates of appreciation to all 27 winners in the 22 categories listed.

AFM 2022 organised by the Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA) is the highest recognition platform for franchise operators in Malaysia with evaluation based on several important criteria including the franchise system, total franchise growth and annual sales value.

AFM 2022 also saw three new categories introduced namely the Best Female Franchise Award which went to Zaliza Alias from Genius Aulad, the Best Franchise Ecosystem ESG Award (Governance) won by Kopitiam Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd (Old Town White Coffee) and the Best Micro and Affordable Franchisor Ownership award went to QC Group Sdn Bhd.

Earlier, in his speech, Azman said the AFM 2022 recipients could be used as case studies at the local higher learning institutions (IPT).

He said many IPT students are trying to get used to business but do not know how to start.
Following that, Azman said more programmes and engagement sessions will be implemented with the university to expose IPT students to the franchise industry.

He added that the government will continue to strive to position the franchise industry as a major sector that has a high impact not only in terms of entrepreneurship development but also by offering more job opportunities.

“The government also wants to ensure that the franchise industry will be one of the main sectors that contribute to Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product,” he said.
