SARATOK: The increasing trend of mass breaking of fast programmes in open places is deemed relevant for more locations, especially in villages, as it reflects racial unity and religious harmony, according to Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri.
Observing the organisation of events like the Sungkei Picnic Style @ Padang Merdeka in Kuching and the Sungkei Perdana Programme at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang, Sibu, Mohamad noted the lively participation of not only Muslims but also communities of various races and religions.
“Everyone comfortably sits together for iftar, akin to a ‘potluck’ gathering.
“We are not lagging behind as even the management of Kampung Perpat organises the Lan Sungkei programme, which was attended by approximately 400 residents. Therefore, such breaking of fast events are deemed relevant to be held in other villages with the aim of fostering ties while promoting Ramadan,” he expressed during the Lan Sungkei event at Kampung Perpat yesterday.
He stressed the need for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) at the village level to take a proactive role in organising such programmes.
He mentioned that funds have been allocated to the mosque and surau management committees, as well as the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK).
“I hope that other NGOs, especially the youth, will support these planned programmes as they can have a significant impact. The Kalaka State Assembly Service Centre will provide its utmost assistance,” Mohamad assured.
He also noted that several projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) will continue in Kampung Perpat this year, including the completion of the Rural Link Road (JPD) project initiated by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) last year, which has greatly benefitted the residents in their daily activities.
Present at the event were Saratok District Council councilor Saee Ason and village heads.
