KUCHING: Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) is collaborating with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to offer a master’s programme in Physical Education and Masters in Sports Science.

The parallel programme, which is scheduled to commence next month, is to provide opportunities for honing the talent and skills of Sarawakians in the sports sector.

“UPM is a local university that has many instructors and lecturers in Sports Science and Physical Education.

“With this collaboration, this will increase and further develop Research and Development (R&D) in Sports Science at SSC and Sarawak Sports Council (MSNS) and sports in Sarawak,” said SSC chief executive officer Dr Ong Kong Swee.

He said the High-Performance Unit (HPU) and the SSC Sports Development Division would also stand to benefit greatly.

SSC facilities would be used for the undergraduate programme, and this would provide opportunities for athletes and coaches to share their opinions and experiences with students, lecturers and researchers.

“I hope those who are interested will seize this opportunity as soon as possible because the recruitment cohort for October 2021 is limited to 25 people.

“So far, almost half the recruitment quota has been filled.”

Both programmes — Master of Sports Science Education and Master of Physical Sports Education through coursework — would last for one-and-a-half years or three semesters.

Students would be given the opportunity to use the international state-of-the-art facilities at the Sarawak Sports Complex.

The undergraduate programme is operated by Creacore Training representing UPM programmes.
