BINTULU: Over 6,000 people from 86 contingents comprising government and private agencies, statutory bodies, uniformed organisations, non-governmental organisations, students from higher education institutions, and schools joined the Maulidur Rasul celebration held at the Bintulu Esplanade here.

The 3.4-kilometre procession on Thursday (Sept 28) was also attended Bintulu Deputy Resident, Abang Zainudin Abang Turkey; Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) deputy chairman Datuk Haidar Khan Asghar Khan, BDA chief executive Datuk Muhammad Yakup Kari, and Bintulu Islamic Welfare Trust (LAKIB) deputy chairman Datuk Mohidin Ishak.

In his speech, Abang Zainudin said the Maulidur Rasul celebration should continue to be nurtured and instilled in the hearts of every Muslim as a symbol of love for the Prophet Muhammad.

“The Maulidur Rasul celebration held today is not just a mere celebration, but it carries great significance for all of humanity.”

With the theme ‘Sarawak Makmur Ummah Sejahtera’ (Prosperous Sarawak, Prosperous Ummah), this year’s celebration focused on three core principles: Prosperity, Wellbeing, and Gratitude.

He stressed that to ensure the wellbeing of Muslims in this world and the hereafter, five fundamental aspects—religion, life, intellect, dignity, and property—are the core essence of Maqasid al-Shariah and should be preserved and given serious attention.

“As Muslims, we should be grateful for all the blessings bestowed upon us by Allah. Sarawak’s 60 years of independence is a blessing that Muslims should be thankful for because we are free from foreign colonisation and can practice our religion in a peaceful and harmonious environment,” he added, as he led the contingent in the procession.
