KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is subsidising hawkers here to the tune of RM1mil annually and has never raised licensing fees indiscriminately.

“So, I hope the people are appreciative and not take this for granted,” said Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng at a press conference for the 2023 Ramadan and Aidilfitri Bazaar on Monday (Feb 13).

MBKS has designated the Stutong Commercial Centre and Stutong Community Market car parks for the bazaars.

“The stalls are for the sales of cooked food, drinks and festive goods from March 23 to April 21.

“Those who are interested in operating the stalls can obtain the application forms from One Stop Service Counter 9 at the MBKS Lobby on Feb 13 (Monday) during office hours,” he said.

Wee added that completed forms must be submitted to the said counter on or before 4pm on Feb 24 together with a deposit of RM100.

“Any late application will not be entertained. Applicants are required to submit the food handlers course certificate, undergo a medical check-up with typhoid vaccination at their own cost and a copy of the Covid-19 vaccination certificate.

“Successful applicants will have to pay a rental fee of RM200 per stall for the Ramadan stall and RM500 per stall for the Aidilfitri stall to MBKS,” Wee explained.
