KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) needs to check on the contractors given the tasks of cutting grass and keeping drains clear of rubbish.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau chief Wilfred Yap said the contractors were not doing a proper job, adding, “The grass is overgrown and not cut according to schedule.”

“Rubbish is not cleared from drains regularly,” he added.

“MBKS has to be informed that its contractors are not performing and needs to monitor this,” stressed Yap here yesterday.

He explained that he was frequently approached by residents of Stampin Resettlement Scheme on the matter during his rounds.

“They complained to me about clogged drains, overgrown weeds.”
He inspected the situation and brought the matter up with MBKS, but also reminded residents to dispose of their rubbish properly.

Yap stressed that action from all, not just the relevant authorities, was needed to ensure a clean and healthy environment.

The Stampin Resettlement Scheme residents also frequently complained about the heavy traffic and the poor conditions of the earth drains along the main road in the area.

They requested that the main road be widened and the earth drains to be upgraded to concrete ones.
Yap hoped that the Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, who is also Kota Sentosa assemblyman and Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Deputy Minister, will assist in the matter soonest.
