KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has vouched to renovate and upgrade public amenities such as the drainage system, parks and roadworks next year.

Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the local council has plans in the pipeline for the upcoming year to enhance its services.

“We are focusing on environmental events as the people are more health conscious, hence, improvising the public parks in Kuching will be our priority besides renovation and refurbishment of the Hui Sing park,” he said at the unveiling of two new radar speed advisory signs near Lorong Stutong A and Lorong Stutong 14 (along Kuching Specialist Hospital road) today.

“The Department of Irrigation and Drainage Sarawak (DID) also will continue to look into the drainages, especially in the flood-prone areas in Stampin settlement area,” he said.

In a separate development, Wee said the council has received 254 applications for the Chinese New Year Festival Sale at Kenyalang Park Commercial Centre Mall.

“There are 215 applications from the general public and 39 from store operators and for those who are interested, we still have some room and they are welcome to contact us,” he said.

He advised the general public to always follow standard operating procedures (SOP) when attending the Chinese New Year Festival Sale, adding that prevention starts within.

“Please wear your masks and don’t take things for granted. If you are not feeling well, please take a COVID rapid test and avoid meeting others,” he said, adding that following the SOPs and adjusting to the new norms are crucial.
