Mention of murder case on Sept 9

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here today set the mention of the murder case of four-year-old Eric Chang Wei Jie to next Sept 9.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi set the date for the two accused Wendy, 37, and Ling, 51, pending the chemist’s report.

The court ordered the two accused be further remanded until the date of re-mention of the case.

Earlier on March 31, no plea was recorded from the two accused after the charges were read together by an interpreter in front of Magistrate Zaiton Anuar.

According to the charges, they are jointly accused of intentionally killing Eric Chang Wei Jie.

They are alleged to have committed the act in Lorong 2, Taman Riverview, Jalan Bintawa, here, at around 5pm, between last March 4 and March 7.

Subsequently the two accused were charged according to Section 302 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same code.

The prosecution of the case was handled by prosecuting officer Insp Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin who represented deputy prosecutor Ray Tan Chuan Yi while the two accused were not represented by counsel.

Previously, the media was quoted as saying a four-year-old boy named Eric was reported missing on March 7 while being looked after by his nanny in a residential area in Bintawa.

The search operation for Eric that started on March 13 near the waters of the Muara Tebas river was also halted on March 19, at 6.00 pm.

According to previous media reports, Kuching District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah had said in a press conference that the case of the child’s disappearance was classified as a murder case and four individuals were detained for investigation.

The four individuals involved have 17 past criminal records, 14 of which are related to drugs, two property crimes and one commercial crime.

The four individuals involved are the guardians and biological parents of the child concerned.
