KAPIT: Konvoi Kembara Merdeka Keluarga Malaysia (KMKM2022) arrived here yesterday and cheered on by more than 800 students and teachers of SMK Selirik.

Bukit Mabong District Officer Robert Liman Deli expressed his gratitude over the presence of KMKM2022  hoped in the future, the convoy could continue to Bukit Mabong which is located about an hour’s drive from SMK Selirik.

He said the celebration of this year’s National Day and Malaysia Day, is very much in keeping with the idea of harmony in a big family built on inclusiveness, unity and gratitude.

“The spirit of the Malaysian Family should be embraced by all levels of society in our efforts to make life prosperous and maintain the unity we have built over the years,” he said while inaugurating the Merdeka@Komuniti programme in conjunction with KMKM2022.

Principal of SMK Selirik Awin Engga said the unity and harmony among races in Sarawak cannot be denied anymore.

Taking Kapit as an example he said that apart from Bahasa Malaysia, the Iban language  is also spoken by anyone regardless of race.

“This strong unity creates tolerance, loyalty, cooperation and mutual respect among the community, and is important to apply to our young people because they are the future leaders who will shape the future of the country,” Awin added.

The KMKMK2022 will continue its journey of 20 more stops with a remaining travel distance of approximately 2,890 kilometres.
