SIBU: The Sarawak Transport Ministry and Road Safety Council (MKJR) will review a proposal to revive the traffic games in the state.

Its Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said this was important for road safety.

“We are talking about road safety. One of the proposals that we discussed and our ministries are working on is we would like to revive the traffic game.

“Previously, it was not only the Shell Traffic Games. We have to revive the traffic game because Sibu, Miri, and Kuching have their traffic garden,” he said in a press conference after a meeting with the Divisional Public Transport Committee (DPTC) here yesterday (May 9).

Lee pointed out that by reviving the traffic game, the state could provide opportunities to educate the young, especially children on road safety.

“Especially those children in school we can educate them on traffic, road safety, traffic rules, and regulations. They will grow up and become good motorists.

Lee shared that traffic games were a simulation of the real condition on the ground where they could learn about road safety.

“They learn about the traffic rules and they also are fined if they break any rule during the game. This morning the committee unanimously agreed that we should revive the traffic game.

“My ministries together with the MKJR will take this up, and will revive the traffic game here in Sarawak as one of the road safety education for our school children,” he said.

Currently, the only traffic game we have in the state is the Shell Traffic Game which provides an interactive fun way for children to learn about road safety.

However, the annual Shell Traffic Games were last held back in 2015.
