MIRI: A RM23.22-million bus terminal to be built in the city is expected to provide for a more cohesive transport hub besides easing congestion at the existing facility.
The Miri Sentral Bus Terminal at Jalan Cahaya, which is slated for completion in January 2024, will occupy 10,845.7sq ft and feature 12 ticketing booths, retail outlets (10 units), 21 bus bay platforms, three car park lots for the disabled, two cafe areas, 15 taxi bays, cargo storage, toilets and a waiting area.
The earth-breaking ceremony for the project, the construction of which is expected to begin next month, was performed by caretaker Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Monday (Nov 15).
Once completed, the Miri Sentral Bus Terminal will cater to the existing urban fabric of Miri City, Miri Airport and the Miri By Pass Highway to neighbouring countries such as Brunei and Kalimantan, Indonesia.
It will become a transport hub not only for the northern region linking Brunei-Limbang-Lawas-Sabah, but also the central and southern region such as Sibu, Kuching and Pontianak.
