Missing elderly found dead in river

Rescuers retrieving the victim’s body from the river in Kampung Slabi Plaman yesterday (Feb 28).

SERIAN: An elderly man who went missing since Monday (Feb 26), was found dead in a river at Kampung Slabi Plaman yesterday (Feb 28).

The victim, identified as Manjun Nadang, 71, had left his house in Kampung Rituh Karas around 4 pm on Monday.

He was last seen wearing a black shirt, a pair of shorts and a pair of yellow rubber shoes.

The locals performed an initial search for the missing victim but to no avail. It prompted the family to report the incident to the police.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) said firemen from Serian station were dispatched to the scene, about 39km away, after receiving a distress call at 8.04am.

The victim’s body was loaded into a police truck to be taken to the hospital.

However, at 12.15pm, rescuers received a call from the villagers of Kampung Slabi Plaman that they had discovered a body floating in the river.

Following that, the team went to the scene to retrieve the body and took it to the victim’s family for identification.

The body was then handed over to the police for further action.
