MARUDI: A man, reported missing at Pangkalan Rembai, Sungai Melikat on Friday, was found safe but feeble yesterday.

According to the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, the man identified as Cassidy Ali, 23, was discovered around 10.45am about 6km from his longhouse.

Prior to the search, a search and rescue (SAR) team consisting of Cassidy’s family held a “miring” (offering) ceremony to seek help in finding him.

“During the ceremony, they heard someone crying and soon afterwards, the team managed to find the victim who was safe and weak due to the lack of food. He only drank water while in the forest.

“The victim suffered some scratches on the face, hands and feet. Recounting his four-day experience in the jungle, he said he heard the voices of the SAR teams calling out his name, but he could not answer,” said the Bomba operations centre.

Cassidy was carried by the SAR team on a stretcher to a fire control post and was later turned over to the police for further action.

He was reported missing last Friday after he failed to return home from a fishing trip with a friend.

The fishing spot was located at about 40 minutes away from their longhouse. After reaching the spot, the friends parted ways and took up positions about 80 metres from one another.

Later that day, only Cassidy’s friend returned home.
