KALAKA assemblyman Mohamad Duri has big plans for his constituents. He wants to build a range of sports facilities that will be effective in combatting stress and promoting good health. He also hopes to boost tourism, enhance socio economic growth and provide job opportunities for the youth.

New Sarawak Tribune: What are your aspirations for the future of your area?
Mohamad Duri: I plan to build a range of sports facilities that will be effective in combatting stress and promoting good health. Being physically active is essential to good health.

What are the prevalent issues facing your area?
The challenges faced by pregnant women in the area are related to high blood pressure and diabetes. Due to the absence of specialist doctors and surgeons at Saratok Hospital, patients are often referred to Sarikei Hospital, causing high costs and inconveniences for the residents.

In Kampung Melango, about 120 houses are affected by land erosion. The victims should relocate to safer areas.

How should these issues be solved?
Specialist medical personnel should be stationed at Saratok Hospital to enhance the healthcare services and alleviate the burden on the community.

I suggest village expansion schemes to provide secure relocation options for individuals affected by the erosion.

What are the upcoming projects in your constituency?
Kalaka is known for its agricultural and fishing communities as well as the Saratok River. I plan to boost tourism, enhance socio economic growth and provide job opportunities for the youth.

A boat race event, Regatta Saratok will be incorporated into the tourism calendar and the construction of the waterfront area will be a landmark feature in Saratok. It will be a hub for economic activities and a focal point for sports like the regatta and jogging.
