Mordi defends Mas Gading with increased majority

KUCHING: Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) Mordi Bimol defended his Mas Gading parliamentary seat with a 5,480 vote majority.

He garnered 17,274 votes  while Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) Lidang Disen polled 11,794.

Sim Min Leong of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) lost his deposit as he could just garner 2,311 votes.

Mas Gading is a Bidayuh majority area with a total of 47,141 registered voters.

Mordi first won the seat in the 2018 polls with a majority of 3,024 votes against Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Anthony Nogeh Gumbek.

Meanwhile, Serian incumbent Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem also retained his seat with a 16,697 vote majority.

Riot garnered 22,876 votes and defeated Independent Dr Alim Impira (6,179 votes); Elsiy Tingang of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) (5,630 votes) and Democratic Action Party (DAP) Learry Jabul (5,289 votes).

Riot defended the seat for the eighth time which he first won in 1990.
