KUCHING: Mas Gading DAP incumbent Mordi Bimol has been told to just own up for his failure to deliver on his 2018 general election pledges.

“The people can see what you have been doing, since you were elected as the MP in the 2018 general election until parliament was dissolved recently to pave the way for the 15th general election,” said Transport Deputy Minister Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.

He said there was no need for Mordi to instigate the people against him, the GPS candidate Lidang Disen and the GPS government in the hope of winning over the people’s hearts and votes this time around.

“Today’s voters are wise enough to choose what’s good for them. They will not be easily swayed by sweet talk and propaganda, let alone be poisoned by smear campaigns,” added Henry, who is Tasik Biru assemblyman.

He was asked to comment on allegations by Mordi on social media that Henry and the GPS government are to be blamed for the failure of the Kampung Selampit Bridge and Kendaie road project to get off the ground.

“Why put the blame on me and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government? Just apologise for not being able to deliver on your promises to the people.”

Mordi had accused Henry and GPS of sabotaging the Kampung Selampit Bridge and Kendaie Roa, which he had promised to the people should they vote in his favour after the 2018 general election.

In that election, he (Mordi) won against the Barisan Nasional (BN) incumbent Datuk Nogeh Gumbek after securing a 3,024 vote majority. He polled 12,771 votes against Nogeh’s 9,747 votes.

Meanwhile, Henry also questioned the timing of Mordi’s allegation during this campaign time, adding: “Is it just another of his excuses for not doing his responsibilities as an MP?”

“Which agency had he discussed and had meetings with in order to speed up the projects’ implementation,” he queried.

He described the allegation by Mordi as typical of opposition candidates’ antics in their effort to divert the rakyat’s attention from the real issue at hand and to cast their votes in their favour.

“Why put the blame on me and the government for your failures? Have you (Mordi) brought the relevant agencies to the grassroots for a dialogue with the people especially the affected landowners (on the projects)?

Henry also questioned why Mordi connected him with the two projects when both projects are in Opar, another state constituency.

“If Mordi has any issue with getting the project implemented then why has he not met up with the Opar assemblyman to get his assistance to help resolve it?.

“If it is a state matter then he should have communicated with the local assemblyman, work together to get the matter resolved,” he added.
