KAPIT: An early morning fire here last Monday caused quite a commotion here last Monday when fire razed the first floor of a 4-storey shophouse at Jalan Ung Hung here, last Monday.

A member of the public who spotted with fire at 10 am immediately contacted the Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) here which despatched some firemen in two fire engines to control the fire from spreading to nearby shops.

Upon arrival, thick smooth bellowed out of the window at front and back of the shop. As the door was locked, the firemen climbed up to the roof and used hammers to break the glass windows in order to spray water to put out the fire.

It was a very difficult task since the shop doors and windows were all closed. Nevertheless, the firemen managed to put out the fire within an hour. No human casualty was reported.

The first floor of the shop has a bakery at the rear and an office in front.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a short circuit.

However, BOMBA and Police have yet to ascertain the cause of the fire and loss incurred.

The shop owner was not available to comment on the fire.
