MIRI: Three local men were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly being involved in a string of motorcycle thefts in the district.

A team from the Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested the suspects, between the ages of 33 and 34, at two separate locations in Kampung Lambir Jaya 1 during an operation that started from 6.48am.

According to Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah when met on Friday, he disclosed that one of the suspects is believed to be the middleman — selling a total of 12 stolen motorcycles in the Taman Tunku, Kampung Lusut, Riam and Pujut areas.

“The suspect also admitted that his house was used to store the stolen motorcycles before being sold at an average price of RM300 per unit to people in Ulu Baram or at plantations,” said Lim.

He added that the suspects also offered to do modifications works on the stolen motorcycles for a fee of RM20 or in the form of syabu (meth).
