MIRI: A motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries in a crash with a truck along the Lutong-Miri road, nearby RPR Mile 7 petrol station yesterday.

The fatal crash shut down part of the road heading from Lutong towards Miri city centre at around 11.15am. The 30 year-old motorcyclist, has been identified as Ismail Razali from Kampung Luak 1C Jalan Bakam.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah when contacted later yesterday disclosed that Ismail was pronounced dead at Miri Hospital due to serious head and bodily injuries.

“Both Ismail and the truck were heading towards the same direction (to the city centre from Lutong) prior to the fatal crash,” said the police chief.

Lim, in a statement, said initial investigation showed that Ismail had suddenly entered the truck’s lane (fast lane).

The truck’s 55 year-old driver was not injured in the crash.

He added the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
