LAWAS: Gagasan Naluri Sdn Bhd, City University Malaysia Sabah Campus and SMK Merapok Lawas have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide sponsorship for the registration fees of RM1,700 for local students who have completed their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and wish to pursue higher education at the university level.
his sponsorship aims to alleviate the financial burden on families, as parents in the area face rising living costs. It also offers an opportunity for SPM graduates to further their studies at City University Malaysia Sabah Campus.
The MoU signing took place during the SPM graduation ceremony of SMK Merapok Lawas, with Gagasan Naluri Sdn Bhd director Madun Nasip signing on behalf of the company. Hafez Rashidi Mohd Yusop represented City University Malaysia Sabah Campus, and SMK Merapok Lawas principal Julkipli Tengah represented the school.
Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong was present to witness the signing of the MoU. In his speech, he urged the youth of Lawas to strive with determination and equip themselves with knowledge to achieve success in the future.
“I urge and challenge the children of Lawas to prove that you are capable of achieving even greater success in the future,” he said.
During the ceremony, 17 individuals were recognised with awards for Excellent SPM Students 2022. Adlina Zahwa Abdul Rahman received the Best SPM Student Award 2022 for SMK Merapok Lawas, having obtained 7As. Five students achieved 6As while 11 students achieved 5As.
Also present was SMK Merapok Lawas Parent-Teacher Association chairman Abdul Kadir Bayan.
