KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii visited SMK Tabuan Jaya today (Apr 27) to better understand the needs of the students there who are currently under quarantine due to the detection of positive Covid-19 cases among them.
“While they are provided with basic food necessities, as a form of support and encouragement to them, our team raised some funds among us to buy some additional food products for them as they cannot go out of their hostels,” he said in a Facebook post today.
He said there were now 14 positive cases among the students, which was why all students in the hostel were currently under lockdown to control the spread.
He said the Health Department was also actively conducting swab tests among the students as well as on staff members who were in close contact with them.
“There are currently 191 students in the hostel. This is the only sports school in Sarawak so they have the best athletes from all around Sarawak studying and training here,” he said.
He said many of them had represented Sarawak and even Malaysia, bringing pride and fame to the nation.
“They are our current and future stars and I strongly believe we need to find ways to better take care of their welfare,” he said.
Dr Yii thanked all the Health officers, teachers, and staff members who were working hard to take care of the students’ wellbeing.
