KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) yesterday carried out thorough cleaning and disinfecting efforts at major wet markets and other trading venues in their area as a precautionary measure against Covid-19.

The operation was carried out at all three popular wet markets, namely those at 3rd Mile, Kota Sentosa, and Kota Padawan, as well as the trading centre at Taman Desa Wira.

Hundreds of patrons frequent these markets, so surfaces often touched by shoppers’ hands such as stalls, table surfaces, and handrails were sanitised.

Cleaning and disinfecting venues, especially those regularly frequented by the public such as markets, can help prevent the spread of the virus.

This is one of the council’s ongoing initiatives to curb the spread of Covid-19 and to make public markets cleaner and safer.

MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang commended the efforts of MPP staff and administration for their exemplary efforts.

“All relevant authorities should disinfect public areas and the public should maintain the highest level of hygiene,” he said.
