MUKAH: The first batch of 196 community leaders from Mukah and Dalat districts attended a Mukah Divisional knowledge-enrichment workshop (Bengkel Pemantapan) here.

Community leaders are categorised under Ketua Masyarakat comprising Temenggong, Pemanca and Penghulu and Ketua Kaum comprising Ketua Kampung, Tuai Rumah and Kapitan.

The two-day (Sept 29-30) Bengkel Pemantapan Ketua Masyarakat & Ketua Kaum was jointly organised by Mukah Division Community Leaders Management Committee and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The workshop discussed, among other things, preparation of minutes of meeting, filling of log book, preparation of financial statement of Village Development and Security Committee and preparation of report of activity implementation.

There were also talks on certain subjects presented by Mukah Division Resident’s Office, government departments and agencies, as well as experience sharing by community leaders and by SEB on CSR initiative.

Mukah Resident Hamdiah Bakir said the workshop was important because it helped to enhance community leaders’ knowledge and update them on current issues.

She said it was necessary for them to know how to do things which were directly related to their job and also to communicate effectively with others.

“When equipped with better knowledge on certain matters, I believe community leaders would be able to provide better input as and when required by the government or other sectors,” she said when officiating at the event yesterday.

She hoped community leaders would learn as much as possible from the workshop and apply their knowledge to serve their communities effectively.

Hamdiah added that the next workshop for community leaders from Matu, Dato and Tanjung Manis would be held at a later date.

Mukah MP Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib, SEB executive Abdul Rani Kaderi and Mukah District officer Shaferi Saili also attended the event.
