KUCHING: The mother of a fouryear- old girl was relieved and thankful to the police for finding her little girl who went missing yesterday morning.

The mother aged 30 said at about 8.30am, she discovered her daughter was not in their house at Lorong Bentara, Petra Jaya here after she had sent her other child to a day care centre. She and her husband then searched the surrounding area but failed to find her. The mother then lodged a police report after a neighbour told her that her l i t t l e girl was seen with her brother- in-law walking at a roundabout.

Her brother-in-law has a history of mental illness. Kuching Deputy Police Chief Supt Abang Juna idi Abang Annuar said upon receiving the report, he mobilised the police mobile vehicles to search for the little girl. Police found the woman’s brother-in-law at about 10am in India Street but the girl was not with him. He was detained as he could not tell police where the little girl was.

Junaidi said at about 12.40pm, a member of the publ ic saw the girl alone near Bangunan Saujana at Jalan Masj id and brought her to the Tabuan Jaya police station. The member of the public known only as Shamsudin said he saw the girl looking like the one posted in a Facebook account, which went viral after the family put up a missing person notice.

After the girl’s mother was informed of the find, she rushed to the Tabuan Jaya police station. Ju n a i d i s a i d e v e r y o n e was relieved that the girl was unharmed. The suspect is being detained for further investigation.
