KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii will be engaging with both the Transport Minister and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living to address the issues faced by passengers of suspended flights by MYAirline.

He described the sudden suspension announcement as highly unethical and irresponsible, causing severe disruptions to travel plans for passengers across the country, including those in Kuching.

“Just this morning, we see many passengers at Kuching International Airport all prepared to fly only to receive news that operations have been grounded.

“This has caused all kinds of inconvenience and even economic losses to the public, which is utterly unacceptable.

・All relevant ministries, including agencies such as the Malaysian Aviation Commission (),  should hold them accountable and actions must be taken to better protect the rights of consumers,・Dr Yii said in a statement released on today (Oct 12).

He also urged MYAirline to come up with a robust designated customer service system to address consumers’ concerns and ensure they receive full compensation for the disruptions.

“The airlines must announce as soon as possible their future plans to ensure consumers can make necessary travel arrangements or even changes, and more importantly allow them to get necessary compensation on the matter.”

Earlier, MYAirline Sdn Bhd announced that it has suspended its operations effective Thursday until further notice due to significant financial pressures.

The low-cost airline said it has come to this “extremely painful decision” because of financial pressures that have made it necessary to suspend operations pending the shareholder restructuring and recapitalisation of the airline.
