KUCHING: The exit of Mydin store as a tenant of Cityone Mall Kuching will not affect its two outlets, Mydin Petrajaya and Semariang, here.

Instead, this development is seen as strategic to ensuring the company remain strong and competitive in retail and wholesale chains industry, according to Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad (Mydin) managing director Datuk Wira Ameer Ali Mydin.

Ameer said the closing of its outlet in Cityone Mall was one of the ways to rationalise the company’s finances for the long-term stability.

With 74 outlets nationwide, Mydin has shown its incredible growth throughout more than 60 years, including spreading its wings to East Malaysia markets.

Ameer went on to announce that Mydin hypermarket will be opening its Sabah’s Sandakan branch next month.

“The global economic growth is expected to be challenging amidst market uncertainties,” he said, adding however, that Mydin Petrajaya will be able to compete with other hypermarkets in the city.

“Petrajaya is a strategic location and we will continue to give focus to enhancing our brands and product offerings, and serve our patrons with good quality products with the best price in town,” he added.
