KUCHING: It is high time for efforts to be stepped up to enhance the collaboration in promoting Green Economy, including green technology and wildlife conservation. In view of the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and disruptive changes, Malaysia recognised the need to preserve the sustainability of the environment for future generations, said Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday in his opening speech at the 13th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here.

He said that the government strongly supported the notion of a Green Economy as being integral to the country’s development.

“Economic growth and development must not be at the expense of the precious ecosystem we are charged by the Creator Himself to look after.

“As His Caliphs, God appoints us as custodians of the earth and there should be no debate on this divine mandate, especially on this beautiful island of Borneo. “Hence, three countries that share this same island, Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia, should collaborate more so that these efforts can undertaken effectively,” he added.

Earlier on, Chairman of WIEF, Tun Musa Hitam also addressed the same issue. He said the interlink between Digital Economy and Green Economy must be set as a precondition in any discussions of development in the future. “However, we also need to be mindful about technology. We have not yet comprehended the latest technology in our hands and yet a newer technology is overlooking our shoulder.

“Machines, gadgets and so on are all acquiring Artificial Intelligence (Ai) at a much faster rate and one day, will be replacing us in whatever we do. “If we are not careful, we, humans, might serve the machines as the pre-end to human civilization.

Hence we need to face disruptive changes by being proactive, innovative and continuously educating ourselves on the impact and challenges ahead,” said Musa.
