KUCHING: The Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, has expressed her deep sadness over the passing of her elder sister, saying, “Gone a dear and cherished sister.”

Hajah Hairuni @ Jamilah Shukri, aged 70, breathed her last on Friday at 11.40 am at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

In a Facebook post, Nancy said, “It is a very painful experience to accept her departure, but we accept it.”

She also extended her gratitude to relatives, family members, and friends for their support and encouragement during this difficult time.

Nancy acknowledged her sister’s contributions to the family and community, particularly in the tourism industry. Jamilah served as the deputy president of the Malaysia Homestay and Kampungstay Association.

Notably, she also served as the coordinator for Kampung Santubong Homestay (KSH), a role that led to great achievements in local tourism sector. In recognition of KSH’s success, the organisation received the prestigious Outstanding Entrepreneur Award for Clustered Homestay at the national-level ‘One District One Industry’ (SDSI) showcase in 2016.
