KAPIT: Despite the expected less than encouraging economic situation this year, Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi remains committed to ensuring that national development, particularly the development of his Kapit constituency, is orderly and steady.

He said a strong and established government is necessary to ensure that the nation can overcome the challenges ahead.

Speaking during the Santai Mesra programme here yesterday (Jan 8), he thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his trust in including him in the federal cabinet.

He also thanked Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman, for trusting him to represent the party and the state at the federal level once again.

On the same note, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Bumiputera Law and Customs) and Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat, who was also present, said Nanta is indeed worthy of being appointed as a full minister based on his experience.

For the record, Nanta was one of five GPS MPs appointed to the cabinet by Anwar.

He served as the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister under former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin from March 2020 till the collapse of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration in August 2021.

His first term as the minister was in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former prime minister Datuk  Ismail Sabri Yaakob from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022.

About 100 guests, including department heads from the federal and state governments as well as local community and tribal leaders, attended the Santai Mesra programme.
