KUCHING: The Neu Pendington integrated development is in line with the Madani Malaysia concept, which focuses on the development of a more sustainable and prosperous country.

Federal Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said this could lead to more urbanisation, which would boost the economy.

The property development, which includes offices, apartments and hotels, he added, was in line with his ministry’s goal to provide conducive business facilities in the city centre and further expand the potential and empower entrepreneurs.

The first integrated development project in Sarawak was developed as a joint venture between UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA) and Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) with a gross development value (GDV) estimated at RM496mil.

“I’m hoping that this kind of development will be capable of spurring Sarawakians’ real estate investment and business activities.

“I think that with this project, UDA will begin to develop real estate for the development of commercial space for our businesses in Sarawak, under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative.”

Ewon said this when officiating at UDA Land Sarawak Sdn Bhd sales gallery here on Thursday (Feb 9).

On the same note, UDA president and chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Salem Kailany asserted that Sarawak was the latest market for UDA to expand its business.

For the past five years, he said UDA had been successful in reshaping and modernising cities in Peninsular Malaysia, including Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor and Penang.

“UDA aims to add flavour to urban development and support Bumiputera and other local communities in Sarawak who want to own property.

“This initiative is in line with UDA’s new branding which is ‘LIFE’ that focuses on survival and sustainability in life.”

The project, which is situated in a prime area next to the Pending Heights industrial area, is projected to be completed in two phases by 2026 and 2027 respectively, and completely operational by 2029.

Also present were Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Minister Senator Saraswathy Kandasami and Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative secretary-general Datuk Seri Suriani Ahmad.
